General needs

Needs as of 11/3/12:

Right now much of the effort on Staten Island is focused on gutting the homes that were flooded in addition to keeping everyone warm until power is restored.

Construction/Cleaning Supplies Work gloves Heavy duty waterproof gloves Work goggles N-95 respirator masks brooms, mops, rakes, shovels sponges heavy duty garbage bags spray bottles bleach duct tape, masking tape markers, pens masks towels / rags tarps generators & gasoline pumps tools

Light Sources Flashlights Candles Lanterns and things to power them such as batteries

Things to Keep People Warm blankets hand warmers/hotties heavy winter coats boots thick socks

Food/Water bottled water non-perishable food and quick snacks like granola bars and snack packs

Baby Items baby food diapers, wipes, powder, cream etc.

Sanitary Items Toilet paper paper towels hand sanitizers / wipes toiletries – deodorants, shampoos, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. first aid kits

Pet Food Dog, cat, bird, hamster

Office Supplies Printer paper markers labels

Misc. Shopping carts aka “granny carts” for people to take home supplies

  • What is the best way for someone out of state to help? If it will help, I will come to Staten Island, but not sure where to go. If people come from out of state, where can we stay? Any direction would be appreciated. I have registered as a volunteer but have not heard back yet about how I can help. Thank you.
