Volunteer Needs for Saturday

posted over 1 year ago by SIrecovers

Here are the places that need volunteers to help with the recovery in Staten Island today. If you are in Brooklyn, we are directing all volunteer to our main distribution sites, 5406 4th Ave in Sunset Park or 520 Clinton Ave in Clinton Hill (see below). Please note that you DO NOT need to sign up or ask what time to come.

Crossroads Church

We will be working out of the Crossroads location as a place from which to organize then deliver by car/bike: food, cleaning supplies, towels, snacks, and information to residents in Midland Beach, New Dorp, Oakwood, Great Kills. We will be canvassing the community to figure out larger scale community needs including generators, tree removal, pumping, and other needs. Needs: car and bike deliverers, co-pilots, servers.

168 New Dorp Lane 11am-6pm Gloria or Chad

Staten Island Clean-Up

On Saturday at 9am, Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis will be holding a clean-up in Staten Island. People will gather at the end of New Dorp Lane and Cedar Grove Avenue which is located just east of New Dorp High School (465 New Dorp Lane). Volunteers should bring any tools that may have (rakes, shovels, push brooms, work gloves, trash bags). Those who are unable to work the clean-up can donate equipment (brooms, rakes, garbage bags, shovels) at Monsignor Farrell High School at 2900 Amboy Road.

Corner of New Dorp Lane & Cedar Grove Avenue 9am onwards, Sat 11/3 http://advocate.nyc.gov/ kmotley@pubadvocate.nyc.gov 212-669-3571 (Nicole Malliotakis)

Please note that Unitarian Church of SI no longer needs volunteers.

If you are in Brooklyn, please come to our main distribution sites at St Jacobi Church in Sunset Park or the Church of St. Luke & St. Matthew in Clinton Hill. These distribution centers are the first stop for volunteers. Cars will be taking volunteers, food and supplies to affected areas in the Rockaways, South Brooklyn, Staten Island, etc. throughout the day. Bring a vehicle and gas if you can and donations of warm clothing, blankets, food, water, batteries, and flashlights.

St. Jacobi Church 5406 4th Ave 9am onwards http://interoccupy.net/occupysandy/ 646-353-5194 (Ronnie)

If you cannot make it to Sunset Park, you can catch a ride to get there at 10 am or 1 pm from any of the other Brooklyn locations.
